Northwoods Citizens for Responsible Stewardship (NCRS) was formed in October, 2003 by a group of Vilas County citizens who oppose opening their public lands to All Terrain Vehicles (ATVs). NRCS recognizes the economic impact of tourism and is concerned about it's sustainability in the future. We would like to see Vilas County remain a silent sport destination for hikers, bikers, skiers, canoers, kayakers, hunters, fisherpeople, etc.
The history and track record of the ATV movement throughout the US is rife with serious problems: damage to natural resources, introduction of exotic species, inability to enforce laws, and extreme conflicts with traditional non-motorized users of public lands. There's good reason you will seldom see ATV trails crossing private property. Opening public lands in Vilas County will only create problems, conflict, additional cost to the taxpayers, and do nothing to address the problems of the ATV industry. The healthy future of Vilas County is in the promotion of such things as a County wide hike/bike trail system and more canoe/kayak landing sites.

Help us keep Vilas County lands free of ATVs. Your donations will help keep our county a peaceful, quiet and less polluted place to recreate. Send you contributions to : NCRS, P.O. Box 31, Presque Isle, WI 54557.
